It is worth doing because these applications are rarely lost on merit: they are lost because the photograph had a patterned background, the signature sat too small in its box, the JPEG was 12 KB when the notification said 20, or the age was worked out against today instead of the stated cut-off. SSC publishes that list itself, so every one of them can be caught in advance.
